Is God sending a message

My granddaughter, who is a divergent thinker, sat down next to me yesterday and ask, “Is God sending a message? I mean, he has sent many messages through time.” I was impressed by her questions, but a little scary.

Kauri experiences high-functioning Autism and her mind is brilliant. However, she can not wrap her brain around the co-existence of religion and science although she truly tries. The best character trait showing through now at seventeen is humor; she is really funny.

Wanting to know where her mind was wandering, I ask what she was thinking. She reflected on the massive amount of “stuff” going on in her brain, then said, “I have been thinking about why we have so many problems in the world. It seems like we are on “repetition mode.”

“What do you mean,” I asked. Kauri looked at me with her mischievous smirk. “Okay, hear me out.

  • God got tired of being by himself, so he creates our planets. Do you think he populated other worlds to see which one would be the most successful?
  • His first friends were dinosaurs, but they were vicious, and many killed each other. Others died of old age. Those that remained may have died of starvation because they couldn’t reach the food required to keep them healthy. (sound a little human)
  • Once the dinosaurs were gone, God designed a whole new plan. He started with animals and then created our prehistoric ancestors. As our ancestors developed, they became more like us and began to spread throughout Asia and Europe.
  • God made promises to certain people, then throughout the years. God became angry at his people and found different ways to express his vengence. Floods, famines, pestilence, and plagues.”

Skipping forward to modern-day, Kauri asked if God is putting trials in our way to see how we respond. Black Death, The Great London Plague, or the worst was the most recent “Third Pandemic” which erupted in 1855 in the Chinese province of Yunnan. The disease traversed the globe over the next several decades, and by the beginning of the 20th century, infected rats traveling on steamships had carried it to all six inhabited continents. The “Third Pandemic” did not end until the 1950s. It sounds like we need to ask God for some answers.

Most recently, we have been faced with SARS, MERS, EBOLA, and now COVID-19. Kauri asked if these terrible diseases are another way for God to express his anger. Or, are we entering the beginning of the final days. As she pointed out, there have been plenty of wars around the world big and small, some of the worst that she mentioned are Iraq, Syria, Sudan, and Afghanistan. Is God sending a message?

MERS is a Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome originating in bats and passing from camels to humans. Since 2012, 27 countries have reported cases of MERS including Algeria, Austria, Bahrain, China, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Islamic Republic of Iran, Italy, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Oman, Philippines, Qatar, Republic of Korea, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, and Yemen.

Approximately 80% of human cases have been reported by Saudi Arabia. What we know is that people get infected there through unprotected contact with infected dromedary camels or infected people. Cases identified outside the Middle East are usually traveling people who were infected in the Middle East and then traveled to areas outside the Middle East. On rare occasions, outbreaks have occurred in areas outside the Middle East.

Similarly, many plagues through time that spread pandemically such as the Black Plague which was spread by rats who boarded merchant ships sailing from China to trade. And yet people have a propensity to spread false messages such as viruses the “Chinese Virus.” which is insulting.

  1. This was a great post until you brought politics in to the very end. He is not bailing anyone out for politics, there are so many service related employees that will lose everything without some assistance. The real hero’s will be the House and the Senate if they can come together to help those on need. As for the virus it did come from China. Maybe God started it there but that was the point of origin.

    1. By example, the Great Flood:

“The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. So the Lord said, ‘I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.’”
