The Journey Never Ends For a Third Culture Kid

The Journey Never Ends. What is behind this magical door?
The Journey Never Ends.
What is behind this magical door?

My formative years were spent in Saudi Arabia beginning in 1964. At that time, my father worked for the Arabian American Oil Company (ARAMCO). I could not have been raised in a better place. The best of all worlds in one place. In our ARAMCO community, we always had our family, friends, and our church that bound us together.

I am grateful to both my parents, because I had the privilege to see many unique places in of the world. Never will forget the challenge to understand global dichotomies. Noone can forget the beautiful tourist areas that countries flaunt. However, behind the showing of magnificent palaces, fascinating ancient ruins and incredible wildlife ranges were starving people living in desperate conditions. As I grew up the ease of ARAMCO life vanished and life became more difficult.

It is a blessing to have you travel with me as I walk through my journey. My blog is about topics that are important to my community or to Veterans. As a Veteran, all Veteran issues are my issues. Plus, the blog will contain other musings that excite or cause pain along the way. Being a Third Culture Kid is one of those topics.

It is difficult being a Third Culture Kid, and many military kids are TCK’s without even knowing it. I will explore my experience and see if it resonates with Veterans who grew up as kids of Military parents living overseas. Hopefully, the conversation will spark feelings of recognition and hope.

This blog project is a serious project for many reasons. I started the project prescribed by my VA Treatment Team to help me manage undefined memory issues, difficulty forming conversations and word finding problems.

The other day, while I was at work, my cousin stole my iPad and tested to see if it can survive a twenty five foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation. My apple ipad is now destroyed and she has 83 views. I know this is entirely off topic but I had to share it with someone!

I’m not sure why but this blog is loading very slow for me. Is anyone else having this problem or is it a problem on my end? I’ll check back later and see if the problem still exists.
